Step-by-step instructions
- 1
Open your domain provider. Sign in to the company where your domain is managed, such as Cloudflare, GoDaddy, Namecheap, Google Domains or Squarespace Domains, Hostinger, or another registrar or DNS provider.
- 2
Open DNS management. Look for one of these labels: DNS, DNS Management, DNS Records, Manage DNS, or Zone Editor.
- 3
Find or add the
wwwrecord. Look for an existing record where the Name or Host iswww. If an existingwwwA record or CNAME record points somewhere else, edit it to use the Kodeefy value, or remove the conflicting record before adding the new one. Do not keep two conflictingwwwrecords. - 4
Add the CNAME record. Enter Type: CNAME. For Name or Host, copy the Name shown in Kodeefy. For Target or Value, copy the Required value shown in Kodeefy. Set TTL to Auto or Default.
- 5
Save the DNS record. Save or confirm the DNS change in your provider.
- 6
Return to Kodeefy. Go to Store Admin > Website > Domains, open the domain, click "I updated DNS", then click "Verify domain".
Root domain and www domain
example.com is the root domain. www.example.com is the www subdomain.
The CNAME record shown in Kodeefy usually connects the www version.
The root domain may need forwarding, an A record, ALIAS, or CNAME flattening depending on the DNS provider.
Follow the exact records displayed in Kodeefy. Do not guess or copy a record from another store.
If you use Cloudflare
- Add the CNAME record under DNS > Records.
- Start with Proxy status set to DNS only if verification is failing.
- After Kodeefy verifies the domain, proxy settings can be adjusted according to the current Kodeefy domain guidance.
- Do not create duplicate records for the same host.
How long does DNS verification take?
Many DNS changes appear within a few minutes, but some providers can take several hours. In rare cases, global DNS propagation may take up to 24 to 48 hours.
If verification fails immediately after saving the record, wait a few minutes and try again.
What does SSL pending mean?
After the DNS record is verified, Kodeefy still needs to issue and activate an SSL certificate for the domain. During this time, the domain may show SSL pending. This normally updates automatically after the DNS is correct.
If verification still fails
- Confirm the record type is CNAME.
- Confirm the Name or Host exactly matches the value shown in Kodeefy.
- Confirm the Target or Required value is copied exactly.
- Remove
https://from the target. - Remove any trailing slash.
- Remove conflicting A, AAAA, or CNAME records for the same host.
- Wait for DNS propagation.
- Click "I updated DNS" and "Verify domain" again.
- Check whether your provider automatically appended the root domain to the Host field.
- Contact Kodeefy support if the record is correct but verification still fails.
